FOLLOWING THE TRAGIC DEATH OF HER SPECIAL NEEDS DAUGHTER ON A SCHOOL BUS
NAJMAH NASH CALLS FOR JUSTICE AND URGES ACTION TO ENACT “FAJR’S LAW”
FRANKLIN TWP., N.J. – Tragically, on July 17, 2023, Fajr A. Williams lost her life as a direct
result of a bus aide’s carelessness while on her cellphone, combined with the bus driver for
Montauk Transit, LLC. driving over numerous road bumps. The negligent actions of those
responsible led to the safety harness on Fajr’s wheelchair becoming a suffocation hazard,
ultimately leading to her untimely death.
While nothing can undo the injustice Fajr A. Williams faced, it is a tragedy that can amount to
a much-needed change in safety while transporting all children in NJ, and across the
nation. Najmah Nash, the grief-stricken mother of Fajr A. Williams, a special needs child and
victim of a devastating tragedy, is calling on the community to join her in seeking justice and
taking proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Fajr, who suffered from
Emanuel Syndrome, a rare chromosome disorder, lost her life due to negligence on her
school bus ride.
Fajr’s mother, Najmah Nash, is devastated by the loss of her beloved daughter and is
determined to turn this tragedy into a catalyst for meaningful change. In memory of Fajr, she
is spearheading a petition to enact “Fajr’s Law” which aims to establish urgently needed
improvements in bus transportation safety protocols along with strict corrective
actions/repercussions for violations on the personnel, county, and state law levels.
“Fajr was an exceptional child who deserved the same care, attention, and safety as any
other child,” Najmah stated. “No parent should have to endure the unimaginable pain of losing
their child due to preventable negligence. We need to take action NOW to ensure that no
other family has to suffer this heartache.”
For far too long, special needs children have been overlooked and neglected, resulting in lack
of proper communication and services for them, leaving parents feeling unsafe and

desperate.  This issue is exacerbated by the oversight and inadequate training of our
children’s caregivers, leading to a failure in providing the services they are rightfully entitled to

under “State Laws & Regulations”. The disregard for safety and emergency policies by the
State of NJ is alarming and reflects a lack of concern for our children’s welfare.
